Mathematical Problem Solving
Dear Upstate New York Math Team,
Happy 2025! I hope you and your family are well, and that you’ll join us for our first practice of the year tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 9am. The Zoom link is below.
As we get back into the routine of the school year, please save your Sunday mornings for the Upstate New York Math Team. We have several practices scheduled with more  programming to come.
We will also soon open the application process to join us at ARML. If you’ve been looking forward to ARML like I have, I hope to see you there!

Japheth Wood is a coach for the Upstate New York Math Team and also a math professor at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
*For our purposes, Upstate New York refers to that part of New York State which lies outside of Long Island and New York City. Are you not an Upstate New Yorker? We welcome you to join us at our training sessions, but can’t invite you to be part of our geographically-defined teams at ARML and other contests.

Time: 9:00am - 10:00am (Just one hour.)

Description: Practice team math skills, use ARML local team round problems.
Upcoming Events (Upstate events are usually Sundays, 9-10am)
February 23: Team Practice #2 with Coach Villani
March 23: Team Practice #3 with Coach Villani
April 20: Team Practice #4 with Coach Villani
May 18: Team Practice #5 with Coach Villani
We are adding Upstate talks and trainings, so please keep your Sundays, 9-10am free. Some events may be announced very close to the date.
Reminder: Please get ahold of a copy of Paul Zeitz’s Art and Craft of Problem Solving book, which we will use as a common text this year.

Accolades
A huge shout out to coach Brendan Casseria, who served on our Problem Squad for several years as we revived the Upstate New York Math Team. Brendan has been named Camp Director of the new Camp Sierpiński, a new summer math program run by National Math Camps.
If you are interested in attending a math camp this summer (and you should!), please check out the lists of programs at the Summer Mathematics Programs Consortium, the Art of Problem Solving, and the American Mathematical Society.
The Upstate New York Math Team is now a 501(c)3 nonprofit! We will let you know more about this later. If you have nonprofit experience and would like to help, please get in touch.
