Dear Upstate New York Math Team,

The NYSML contest took place on Saturday, March 13 and brought out 300 of New York State’s best and brightest high school math students to Owego in the Southern Tier. The teams were welcomed by the NYSML organizers and hosts at the Owego Free Academy, and the camaraderie among participants was palpable.

Applications are still welcome to join the Upstate New York Math Team at ARML (June 1, 2024) at Penn State in State College Pennsylvania. We hope to conclude the team selection mid-week, so if you are still mulling it over, now is the time to act. Please fill out our form!

Accolades

Claire Park reports that Ithaca High School sent three teams of 6 to the Trinity School Math Competition (TrinMaC) in March 2024 and competed against 122 teams from 7 countries. The results were splendid! One of their teams with roster {Athena Nie, Claire Park, Dinithi Senevirathna, Kai Imani, Mukund Gaur, Taran Knutson} placed 2nd overall (internationally) and 1st in the United States. NYSML President George Reuter reports that the top winner of this year’s NYSML contest at Owego Free Academy (in the Southern Tier region of New York state) was Emily Yu (Monroe), with a tiebreaker round time of about 3:30. Emily is believed to have made history as the first girl ever to win NYSML. Congratulations to Emily!

NYSML also extends congratulations to Derek Xu (Westchester), Aditya Pahuja (NYC - Queens), and Ian Buchanan (NYC - Manhattan), who achieved perfect 10s in the Individual Round.

The Team winners were NYC Tin Man, Nassau A, and Monroe A in Division A, and Scarsdale High, Alternate 1, and DUSO A in Division B.
