Join us this Sunday morning at 8:30am for our 2023-2024 ARML Kick Off Meeting. Please plan to attend if you are a new or veteran student interested in joining or learning more about the Upstate New York Math Team and competing next Spring!

We will share information about our math team activities, additional competition opportunities, goals, trainings, and contests this year, and introduce our coaches. We will also, of course, work together on solving some challenging math problems! You’ll meet some of your future teammates and learn how to get more involved. Harvard-MIT Math Tournament (HMMT)

The HMMT is one of the most prestigious and challenging math competitions in the country. The November and February tournaments both take place in Cambridge, MA, at Harvard and MIT.

Update: We’re waiting to hear back from HMMT if we can participate. The Harvard-MIT Math Contest is so popular that attendance is by lottery. We might know more by our Kick Off Meeting.

The Big Red

The Undergraduate Math Club and Department of Mathematics at Cornell University is excited to invite all mathletes to participate in the very first Big Red Mathematics Competition!

Early Deadline: September 30, 2023!

Date: October 28th, 2023

Location: Cornell University, Malott Hall

About the Competition: The Cornell University Big Red Mathematics Competition promises to be an exhilarating event that will challenge your mathematical prowess and ignite your passion for problem-solving. This competition is open to all high school students who are eager to showcase their mathematical talents.

Other Opportunities

American Mathematics Competitions (AMC)

(AMC 10/12 A: Nov 8, 2023 and AMC 10/12 B: Nov 14, 2023)

Since these contests are so popular, we ask students for their AMC scores on our ARML team member application. Students who excel might continue into the invitational contests like the AIME, USAJMO and USAMO.

Please check if your high school can offer these contests. If not, then check https://maa.org/math-competitions/amc-8/locations for other locations.

International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC)

An individual contest that is taken remotely. The first round of qualifying problems is available at https://iymc.info/docs/IYMC_Qualification_Round_2023.pdf, and was due on Sunday, September 17, 2023. If you submitted your solutions to the qualifying round, please email Japheth.

USA Math Talent Search (USAMTS)

An individual contest that emphasizes technical writing skills. The Round 1 Problems are available at https://usamts.org/Problems/U_Problems.php, and due by 10 PM Eastern on October 16, 2023.

American Regions Math League (ARML)

This team-based math contest takes place in early June each year and is the main focus of our planning. The application form to compete at ARML with the Upstate New York Math Team will be open later this fall.
