Upstate New York Math Team
We’re headed to ARML 2023!

Our biggest goals this year is to send team(s) to ARML 2023.
The American Regions Math League is a team event that takes place at sites around the country on the first Saturday of June each year. We are seeking potential team members; high school math students in Upstate New York who are excellent problem solvers. Might that be you? Prepare with us!
How to join the Upstate New York Math Team
Get really good at mathematical problem solving! We have plans to offer regular math team trainings and instruction. You might also study on your own, or with your school’s math team or a local math circle.
In the spring, we’ll open up an application form, and will make the final team selection in late April or May, 2023. We will request your math contest scores (AMC, AIME, Math League, etc.) as a measure of your problem solving strength.
Practices
We’re starting with monthly ARML team round trainings on Sunday mornings:
Sunday, October 30, 8:30am–10:00am
Sunday, November 20, 8:30am–10:00am
Sunday, December 11, 8:30am–10:00am
Use this Google Meet link to join us for a Sunday practice! Add us to your calendar!
Take the AMC 10/12 Contests in November
The AMC 10A and 12A contests are on Thursday, November 10, and the AMC 10B and 12B contests are on Wednesday, November 16. These high school level math contests are intended to help develop an appreciation of mathematics and to further your problem solving skills.
If your high school does not offer these contests, then ask them to do so! You may also seek other AMC sites with a ZIP code search, or at this link for the AMC at higher education sites.

A message from NYSML President, George Reuter
Greetings, friends of NYSML!
The NYSML Board is pleased to announce that NYSML will return to in-person competition at Ithaca High School on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
We recognize that teams need lots of time to plan for upcoming events, particularly when travel is involved. We hope that this announcement allows sufficient time to plan for a trip to Ithaca in the spring of next year.
I have two small requests. First, would you hit Reply and let me know whether you think your team will make the trip to Ithaca?
Second, would you forward this note to anyone you know who works with kids on mathy things but who lives in an area that doesn’t have a NYSML team? We’d love to see a large number of New York’s 62 counties represented at NYSML2023.
All our best until our paths cross.
Regards,
George Reuter (NYSML President) and the NYSML Board
Please help us connect with high school math students across Upstate NY
Send them to our website:
P.S.: Thanks for reading all the way to the end of this email! If you are interested in helping to organize the team, please send me a friendly email.
