Happy New Year! As I write this message, New York State is experiencing disruptions from the Omicron wave. As a result, NYSML (April 9) has decided to move online, but no word yet about ARML. I hope you and your family are healthy, and able to manage well with the situation at hand.
You may be aware that I’ve been having trouble with the Upstate New York Math Team newsletters being filtered into spam folders. So this newsletter comes from my Bard Math Circle email address. Hopefully this will solve these issues, and it will be easier for us to connect moving forward. Please make sure to add me to your contacts, so that you’ll be more likely to receive these newsletters without interruption.
Join us this Friday for our monthly math team practice! We’ll gather together as a team to work on a past contest. This is a great opportunity to build community, practice strategies to coordinate our efforts, and of course, to get exposed to new challenging problems.

Here are our solutions to the December Practice Problems. For maximum benefit, read the solutions for both the problem you solved and for those you did not solve. You may find a new technique that solidifies your previous knowledge! And please make a note of any topic that is completely new to you. That would be a great direction to continue with your independent math learning.
As always, we are very grateful to our Problem Squad, especially to Matthew Babbitt. Please let me know if you’d like to join the Problem Squad, and help to produce the Practice Problem Set each month.

There is no time limit, and there are no restrictions on how you solve these (so don’t worry about simulating contest conditions). Just practice on these problems, alone, or with friends! We love seeing original student solutions; please reply to this email address with your work. If you prepare your solution in LaTeX, the math typesetting language, we might include it in our official solutions packet.
