Did you enjoy the extra time to work on the October Practice Problems? I invite you to look through our official solutions now:
Reading the solutions is a practical way to learn some of the challenging mathematical ideas that appear in math contest problems. Sometimes, all that is required is to apply ideas and skills you already have with some creative techniques. And sometimes there’s just a new piece of critical mathematics that is needed.
If you solved a problem last month, why not read how The Problem Squad did it? And if the problem was just out of reach, a careful study of our explanations may lead to interesting new ideas. Reading math is not easy, so I recommend using paper and a pencil as you read.
A big thank you to The Problem Squad: Matthew Babbitt, Brendan Caseria, Tina Giorgadze, and Japheth Wood. We are looking for additional members, so please get in touch if you are interested in volunteering. The responsibilities are to select 5 problems each month and prepare them in LaTeX. This is a great way to become more familiar with the problem literature, and to develop your exposition and math typesetting skills. We are happy to mentor you!
Remember, our online practices are on the 2nd Friday of each month, so please join us on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. We’ll work together on a math team event, and then discuss solutions and teamwork. We meet on our Discord server. If you’re interested, please apply early, so that we have time to process your application.
