Welcome to Summer! This issue of our newsletter marks our last until school starts in the fall. You can find the final solution set, and results from the ARML Local 2020 contest below.
New York State continues to reopen, and we are cautiously optimistic about schools reopening in the fall. The move online has given us new strategies to gather and prepare students from across Upstate New York as we move towards ARML 2021.
Once again, a huge thanks to the Problem Squad, Matthew Babbitt and Brendan Caseria. We've lost a lot of sleep facing the mathematical challenges they've laid down, and enjoyed every moment of it.
We are grateful, too, to Matthew Goehrig and Stefanie Scanlon who joined us as proctors for the ARML Local Contest (and a thank you to all the parents who provided individualized tech support during that event).
We hope you will join us too, in rebuilding the Upstate New York Math Team into a robust and lasting organization.

P.S.: As always, please share the newsletter sign up form with students, parents, math teachers and math team coaches. We have a year to connect to the high school math enrichment community across the state, and return to ARML in 2021!
We sent three teams to the ARML Local Online contest, and our top team placed 84th in the team rankings. Our top individual score was 7 points out of 10. We're starting out with very young students (median age 13.5 and grade 8), which is fantastic for our long term potential.

Meet some teammates!
Alex B. Wu is a freshman in the FM High school. He is a member of school math league and Science Olympiad team. Alex likes reading, writing, and playing video games and sports with his friends. He also plays piano, cello and tennis. He is a member of Symphoria SYAO and school string orchestra.
Hi all! My name is Emily Ma and I’m currently a junior at Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie. I enjoy baking and hiking in my free time and mathwise, love linear algebra. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with others who share the same interest in math as I do!
My name is Eric Liu, and I'm 14 years old. I like to play video games and program. I live in America and was born in Canada. I participated in the Mathcounts regional and state competitions.
James Lian is an eighth grader at Iroquois Middle School. He plays violin and volleyball, and enjoys coding, gaming, and of course, math.
I'm Harry Shen. I'm from Shaker High School. I like to sleep. I've been doing competition math for a while. It's a lot of fun participating in teams, especially when you're with people you know well because you get to joke around with each other well.
Matthew Goehrig is a math educator from Buffalo, New York. A middle school math teacher by day, Matt has also worked at the University at Buffalo as an instructor for the Gifted Math Program since 2013. There, he teaches a survey of higher mathematics course for incoming middle school students covering topics ranging from group theory to complex analysis.
Matt also coaches the UBCompetes competitive math club which fields teams from around the Buffalo area in the MathCounts competition each year and prepares students for the AMC.
